Guide 5 of 6
Membership
The board is a shop window with a clubhouse behind it. Anyone can look through the glass, free, forever. Stepping inside, taking part, is for members.
Looking, and taking part
Anyone can find the board: no fee, no sign-up. See what’s on, the dates, the rough part of town, and how many kids are coming, and that’s the whole of it. Saying you’re coming, putting up an idea, commenting, paying for a place, is for members.
Members have joined: a card on file, pay-what-you-can from $5 a month, the four values ticked. Members see the real detail, names, kids’ ages and exact venues, and can do everything on the board.
What joining opens
The real detail. Names, photos, kids’ ages, who wrote which comment and the exact venue are for anyone who’s joined. Without joining, the board is dates, counts and areas of town. (Only ever what each family chose to show: joining never reveals anyone who opted to stay unnamed.)
The four values
Joining means ticking these four, out loud, as alignment rather than fine print. They are the whole reason the room behind the door feels like a club:
- Secular, and open to everyone. What we run has no worship, prayer or faith-based teaching. Families of every faith and none are equally welcome, and nobody is ever asked which.
- Kind, welcoming and safe. I'll help make this a place every family and every kid feels safe and wanted. That's the one real requirement.
- Reliable. When I say we're coming, we come, or I take our name off in good time. Someone has usually paid a fixed cost up front, and I get that.
- In it together. This is a community we build, not a service we buy. I'll pitch in where I can, even if that's just showing up and saying hello to a new family.
What membership costs
$5 a month, per family, not per child, is the standard rate, and pay-what-you-can if that’s tight: $2 a month reduced rate, $5 a month standard rate, $10 a month support rate. Nobody is asked why they picked a rate.
It’s not for profit and pays nobody a wage: the fee covers the texts, the emails and the cost of running this, nothing else. Activities are priced separately, there are always free things on the board, and cost is never the reason a family misses out: say the word to an organiser and it’s sorted, no explanation needed.
Got an invite code?
Some families come in on an invite code, and their membership is free until further notice. Open the link you were sent (the code fills itself in), or type it on the Join page, affirm the four values, and give an email address so the membership is recoverably yours. No card, no fee.
Joining, changing your rate, leaving
Everyone else joins from the Join page: affirm the values, pick a rate, add a card. You’re charged from day one, at whichever rate you picked, and changing it later is just picking a new one: the change lives with your subscription.
Leaving is just as plain: cancel any time, your membership runs to the end of what you’ve paid for, and everything you did on the board stays yours. No exit interview.
Next up: When something looks wrong
The board looks empty, you show up as “Someone”, a link never arrived: the fixes.
